Long time Yogini, new to Crossfit .. absolutely loving how the one eases into the other.

The Five Principles of Yoga merge seamlessly with Crossfit:

Proper Exercise (Asanas) ..

means Proper Alignment to be injury free.

Proper Breathing (Pranayama) ..

means breathing from the belly with awareness.

Proper Relaxation (Pratyahara) ..

means work hard + play hard =adequate recovery for improved performance.

Proper Diet (Ayurveda, eat right for your body type) ..

means eating to feed the beast.

Positive Thinking (Dhyana / Peace and Non-Harming) ..

means doing your best in every breath, that resistance makes you strong, that fear is a mind killer, that pushing yourself means finding your self, and quitting is never an option.

Some may consider Yoga and Crossfit an odd couple, but Yoga has deep martial roots, as seen in Kalaripayattu, one of the oldest forms of fitness for warriors.  Having dedicated 40 years to the study and practice of Yoga, plus over 10 years to various martial art forms, and being an active runner (more than a few marathons), Crossfit is the closest fit to Yoga I have yet to find.

Let Kali’s Dance Begin!
